From as far back as I can remember, I have always desired beauty. From a teenage girl playing dress-up to an adult poetess, I have always loved the look and depth of beauty.
As a young girl, I remember seeing images of societal beauty - and those images were far from what the mirror reflected back to me. So when I discovered poetry and music found in artists from underrepresented groups, I gravitated towards that form of beauty. Being raised in a neighborhood predominantly minority, and being Latina myself, I felt I had found the sounds and words that resonated with me. It was this blend of unconventional and beautiful that was intriguing to me and eventually lead me to becoming a poet and artist myself.
In 2020, I became an indie author of three self-published books: "Her Heart Song," "The Light Inside," and "Seeing Feelings," a picture book.
However, inside these books you will find not only a non-traditional format, but also a unique story of a girl who exchanged beauty for ashes.
As a woman of faith, artist and one of unconventional appearances, I decided to combine all these elements into one entity – the Izzy Lala blog. I hope you will join me on this revelatory journey of beauty and beautiful minds.
