Have you ever felt as though you were reaching for something that you could never get enough of? It could be a substance, a negative influence, a person, or simply things. There are many things in our world and society that seem appealing and like they offer an answer. The answer to our depression, our anxieties, our quest for love and so much more.
I’ve been there before. And I can tell you that in the end, reaching for these things and beings was only a temporary fix. A temporary fill to my void. As many times as I tried to find the answer to my emptiness, it never quite filled it completely or forever. Rather, in the long run, I was left in a far worse condition than when I started.
I believe we are all reaching for something. But I think much of the time, we are reaching and reaching and yet never truly finding.
So then, what is the answer? When all our reaching and running results in suffering, what is the answer?
When I was younger and searching, I knew I was headed in the wrong direction. And yet for some reason, I felt an intense desire to continue chasing these things. That was until I was shown the truth – that while I was reaching and reaching and yet never grasping, and running and running and yet never arriving, I realized I was only running away from myself.
It was only when I faced this truth, that I was able to begin my healing journey. It wasn’t until I let go of these things and people that I was able to finally see what I truly was running after.
What I was truly wanting was love. But I would have never been able to see that had I not received a profound intervention by God. God showed me truth. And, in the end, it was the truth that set me free.
I was among many people who were searching for love in many places and yet never finding it. Letting go of the things I was reaching for had a dramatic effect on my life. And I believe it can on yours too.
Here are the things that brought me to a place where I was no longer seeking to fill a void from what/whom could never fill it.
1. I sat in stillness.
If you are reaching and reaching and yet never grasping, and searching and searching and yet never finding, I encourage you to sit in the stillness. Ask yourself, what is it that I am reaching for?
2. I let go of things I was running after.
Whether it is a substance, a person, or things, if you are honest with yourself, you will realize that these things are only temporary. And much of the time they will abandon you or else leave you in a far worse condition than when you started.
3. I faced my truth.
Is there something you are hiding from yourself? Be honest with yourself about what you are reaching for and why.
4. I received God’s love.
Finally, I believe that we are all searching for something. And most of the time, that something is love. So, what does that say? That while you are reaching and reaching and yet never finding, I believe love is reaching and reaching for you.
