How to stay true to yourself in a world that keeps changing?

“The truth is we are all evolving – which is a part of life. But we should never forget where we came from or who we are at our core. It is those very things that make you – YOU.” - IZZY LALA

As an artist, it has been the one thing I have vowed to do and that is – stay true to myself and my art. Even as the world has changed – music, culture, fashion, art – I still strive to stay true to myself and speak my truth.

The world is constantly changing – and now it seems like the changes are swifter than ever before.

As one trend hops on the scene another leaves. It seems like once I begin getting used to something in culture or art, the thing changes, rearranges, or evolves. It can be a good thing too, however, if you are a person who is not sure of yourself it may feel like you must constantly be changing with it.

The truth is we are all evolving – which is a part of life. But we should never forget where we came from or who we are at our core. It is those very things that make you – YOU.

The art that I am most proud of happens to be the creations that have made me most vulnerable. It is my story – the struggles, the tears. It is my truth that I have been able to live and tell about.

If that is not the type of person or artist you are, I get it. However, to stay true to yourself you have to go back to those things that are true to you.

Just because something is a popular, mainstream, or culturally acceptable thing, doesn’t mean you have to change who you are or what your art is (if you’re an artist).

The world is constantly changing and evolving. And although there are some things we have to accept and even evolve with – it doesn’t mean you have to rewrite your whole story. And you don’t have to change the core of who you are deep inside. I’m talking about what’s in your heart.

 Stay true.

What do you think? In what ways are you staying true to yourself? Let me know in the comments!
